COVID cases now stand at 602

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, August 10, 2020 

The number of confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has increased to 602. This comes as the Ministry of Health is reporting that 18 men, and 16 women, have tested positive for the virus.

To date, 189 persons have recuperated from COVID-related illnesses, while 22 have succumbed. In total, 5,366 persons have been tested for the virus.

Currently, there are 391 active cases in institutional isolation at various facilities across Guyana; 49 persons in institutional quarantine and four patients housed in the COVID-19 ICU.

Globally, the World Health Organisation (WHO) is reporting that as of August 11, positive cases stand at 19,936,210 with 732,499 deaths. While, in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 10,697,832 with a total of 390,850 deaths. 

Citizens are reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they must go out.
