CPCE receives Electronic Notice Boards from the Guyana-Bahamas Association

(March 9, 2018) – The Guyana-Bahamas Association today donated two electronic notice boards to the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE). This move was a result of talks between the Association and the Ministry of Education, particularly the Minister of Education, Hon. Nicolette Henry and the Chief Education Officer, Mr. Marcel Hutson.

During the simple handing over ceremony at the CPCEā€™s Turkeyen Campus, the Chief Education Officer said that the kind gesture by the organisation must be acknowledged. He expressed gratitude for the donation and the other projects which the organisation will be undertaking to assist Guyana.

He said that CPCE is noted for being an institution that moulds and impacts the nation. The CEO thanked the Association on behalf of the Minister and the Ministry.

Representing the Guyana-Bahamas Association was Mr. Vibert Williams who is also the Associationā€™s treasurer. He said that over the years approximately 2000 to 3000 Guyanese have become residents in the Bahamas.

He said that a large number of these are teachers, hence the Associationā€™s over less than 100 members have a strong bias towards supporting the education sector in Guyana. He said that the Associationā€™s members have a strong patriotic spirit to assist their home, Guyana, in every way possible.

According to Mr. Williams, the CPCE was chosen for the donation due to the recommendation of the Chief Education Officer. Mr. Williams said that the Association will consider donating to the CPCE as an on-going gesture. He also identified the University of Guyana to be a future beneficiary of the Associationā€™s efforts.

He said that the body undertakes activities throughout the year to make significant donations in Bahamas and Guyana. The Associationā€™s objective is to promote the interest of Guyana and Guyanese and to build social linkages between the two countries.

The two pieces of equipment are valued at $650,000 collectively and Mr. Williams believes that it is money well spent.

Meanwhile, Principal of CPCE, Ms. Viola Rowe said that the Ministry of Education is pushing towards modernising all institutions. As such, she expressed that the equipment will add to that venture. Further, she said that the equipment will help the college to use technology in the administrative processes and will improve the aesthetics of the institutionā€™s learning environment.

The CPCE has been in existence for over 90 years and has been reliably supplying the education system with Trained Grade 1, Class 1 teachers in the Nursery, Primary and Secondary sectors.
