“One of the new programmes that we are looking at as we expand the ICU care is to do a short programme in intensive medicine. So, this would be critical care medicine, especially for those ICU doctors, so right now that’s in its planning stages, and once we get those things sorted out we, Ministry of Health, will be running that training as well.”

Minister Anthony said this particular programme would also look at Certification of COVID-19 deaths, which is critical for ICU doctors.

“This is very important. This one is going to be run by PAHO/ WHO, we have to train our staff to better understand how to deal with the pandemic, and this is one way to disseminate information, and we will continue to do that, to enhance their clinical skills,” he said.

Since the pandemic started, Government has ensured training of health workers in areas of mental health, ICU ventilator operation, regional ICU development and now, ICU/ critical care.
