The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations wrapped up on Tuesday, with thousands of students countrywide ending the final leg of their Secondary education.

Turning a new leaf in their lives are a few fifth form students of the East Ruimveldt Secondary School who are elated to have emerged successful at their CSEC exams.

Sixteen-year-old Manasseh Williams, a budding agricultural engineer candidly explained that while challenging, the examination was rewarding.

“My first examination was challenging because I studied different stuff and I tend to forget what was on the paper [at times] …but for the rest of the subjects it was easy…my most challenging subject was English,” Manasseh said.

Bright-eyed Renee Chris has her post-secondary plans all mapped out telling DPI

she is preparing to attend the Guyana Technical Institute to obtain her Diploma and then onto the University of Guyana for her Degree.

Renee noted her relief to have overcome the challenges CSEC presented over the last few weeks.  “When I first was about to write Principle of Accounts, I was very nervous and then after it was easier,” she explained.

Seventeen-year-old Ronaldo Baichu who wrote seven subjects at this year’s examinations took some time to adjust to the new experience. “To be honest I was nervous at first but after I wrote at least two subjects then I became accustomed to it,” he noted.

Over 12,000 students countrywide sat the CSEC examinations over the last few weeks in dozens of subject areas. In 2019, Guyana recorded the highest national pass rate in Caribbean history, breaking a national record with 73 percent.
