Residents of Charity Region 2 are being urged to be prepared for what the future holds for Guyana. Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan made those sentiments during a meeting with residents following the ‘Government comes to you’ outreach that was held at the Damon Square.

Minister within the Ministry of Communities, with responsibility for Housing, Annette Ferguson was also present at the meeting held at the Charity Secondary School.

Guyana is on the brink of oil production, in this regard, Minister Ramjattan informed residents that the government would be using the profits to invest in every sector.

“Monies must be spent on all of the people and not just a specific set… Times are going to get better, but we must also get ourselves prepared for that better day… It means we have to prepare our children,” he underscored.

The minister further pointed out that the government, in just four years, has done as much as possible to correct the wrongs done by the previous administration. This includes infrastructure, health, security and education.

The system that the current government met, the minister explained, was very corrupt. However, he said that since the Coalition Government took office, they have been working to ensure that everyone realises the good life that was promised. The intention, he said, is to develop the country and not to fulfil personal goals like what was done previously.

Minister Ferguson echoed similar sentiments stating that while the government is working to fulfil their promises, they have to fix the many wrongs done by the previous administration. With this in mind, residents were urged not to fall prey to the empty promises being peddled by the opposition.

Reference was made to the opposition’s promises which, according to the minister, are tricks and schemes used to fill pockets of the opposition.

Residents were reminded of the overwhelming achievements made by the current administration. The drastic improvement of old age pension and minimum wages are just a few to mention, the minister highlighted.

She reminded residents, “you can now travel from Supenaam to Charity on a well illuminated public road. We know that this region constantly experienced blackouts and just over a month ago, we commissioned a new powerplant in order to reduce [power outages]. You know what you were experiencing, and a caring government pumped millions to improve the electricity to you, the people, in this region.”

With that, the minister urged residents to not forget about the developments when elections are due. They were called upon to put aside politics and think about their future.
