Glynis Beaton, Regional Chairperson of the International Diabetes Federation and President of the Guyana Diabetic Association.

Beaton explained the goal is to raise the awareness of the general public specifically family members of persons living with diabetes.

“We are celebrating family and diabetes, it is important that those who have family members that are diabetic realise that it is important to understand the theme.”  According to Beaton, the theme of the gala focuses on the family’s involvement in supporting persons with diabetes. Beaton added, when a person is diagnosed with the condition it can affect the entire family in many ways.

“The story, Alice in Wonderland is very much inclusive of the family… Alice wandered away, everybody helped to get her back” Beaton noted. Therefore, the role of the family in this regard is to ensure they know more about the prevention, discovery and management of diabetes.

The Alice in Wonderland “Queen of Hearts Ball” is being hosted in aid of World Diabetes Day which will be observed on November 14 and in support to Diabetics and their families.

Tickets for the event are still available at a cost of $6000. Interested persons can contact Glynis Beaton on 600-1154. Her office is located at 106 Croal Street, Stabroek Georgetown.
