Dredge Creek Primary to get new roof and walkway

─Residents also welcome govt. pledge of a flood alleviation plan

Sunday morning church service at the Assembly of God Church at Dredge Creek, Upper Pomeroon, finished early as residents eagerly awaited a planned meeting with Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Jaipaul Sharma.

Upon his arrival, Minister Sharma and his team inclusive of Engineer, Saeed Mohamed, were warmly received by Pastor Calvin Harrop and residents.

During the engagement residents were not shy to list their concerns, among them being; urgently needed infrastructure development to alleviate flooding in the farming community, repairs to the Dredge Creek Primary School, a walkway leading to the school and employment for young people and women.

Pastor Harrop said his community stood ready “to return President Granger to office in the next general election.

In response, Minister Sharma said much of the work that takes place in these communities, are done through the Regional Democratic Council, but the financing comes from central government.

He encouraged the residents to focus on self-sufficiency since their community produced some of the best coconuts in the country and several cottage industries could be derived from this.

On much the needed infrastructure, Minister Sharma related that the government had already begun to map out a flood alleviation plan with the community’s support and okay.

“Infrastructure development and education are important to this administration.” … “We know the issues you face with water and flooding and with the involvement of your community we may need to dig a canal, “Minister Sharma told the residents gathered

He assured the residents that the infrastructure issues will be addressed and informed them that an engineer will take an immediate look at the school to determine what needed was needed for the repairs to the roof after which they will address the construction of the walkway.

Sunday’s visit to Dredge Creek, Upper Pomeroon is part of the government taking its services to the people.
