E.C.D residents come out to exercise their right

As one of the prominent individuals to exercise their right to vote along the E.C.D area, this morning, Deputy Commissioner, Guyana Police Force (GPF), in charge of Administration Paul Williams, underscored the importance of voting to influence change.
“Going out this morning to exercise my franchise is my democratic privilege and it is something that I respect…. to have the opportunity to vote is indeed an opportunity to bring about change and I know that there is just a matter of time, things will change for the better. However, persons must also know that there is a process and if they choose not to be a part of the process… there will not be any change,” Deputy Commissioner Williams told the Department of Public Information (DPI).
Mr. and Mrs. August (only name given), a husband and wife duo from the Plaisance-Industry area, said that this year they voted to ensure their values are represented in order “to help in the development of their community and the country, as a whole.
Bruce Granville-Adams, also a resident of Plaisance/Industry explained that he chose to not only to vote but to also run as an independent candidate in the race so that he could “educate and encourage the young minds to look towards the development of his community.”
Alexander Stanislaus, a Buxton/Foulis resident said his experience voting was a satisfying one, as he is able to vote for the person that he feels will help bring change in the community.
Shawndelle Glasgow, from Plaisance said her, “voting experience was awesome… I must admit that I really did not know where I needed to vote and so I found out about GECOM’s website and I checked my phone … I must applaud GECOM for such an update. She noted that this process allowed her to exercise her right with no issues.
Though many Easy Coast Demerara residents were camera shy, they expressed their hope for more improvement following the conclusion of this year’s LGE and encouraged others to take part in the decision-making process to elect their representatives.
