Early voters in Mahdia confident of their candidates

Several of residents of Mahdia, Potaro-Sipuruni, Region Eight queued early this morning to exercise their democratic rights at the Local Government Elections (LGE).  The elections are being held for the send time after being resuscitated in 2016 after 22 years.

At the various polling stations, many residents expressed great confidence in the candidates which they have opted to support.

Kenrick Benjamin, from Constituency Two, was the first to vote at the Mahdia Secondary School. He told the Department of Public Information (DPI) it is important to vote since it determines the immediate future of your respective community.

Benjamin said “it is necessary for everybody to not only take part in the election but to look in the direction you need to travel and select accordingly. I’m feeling really good and I’m confident that who I’m supporting will be the person we need”.

Ivor Jilkes, another early voter, was pleased to have exercised his constitutional right. Jilkes said he has been anticipating the elections. “I voted for the candidate I felt can best take the constituency forward and I also feel good about it.”

Meanwhile, some residents said they voted to see changes in their communities. Husband and wife George and Therese John are expecting to see more infrastructural improvements in their community. Lloyd Accra, another one of those persons, said: “I want to see changes for the young people in the community, we need jobs and other developments.”
