Golden Grove, Nabacalis and Haslington became the most recent communities to benefit from the Ministry of Natural Resources “A Clean Environment Project” when members received several items to assist the community in maintaining a clean environment. Fifteen (15) streetlights for Presidents’ College Road, eleven (11) bins and several seedlings and fruit trees were donated to the communities.

Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Raphael Trotman, handed over the items on behalf of the Ministry along with a cheque for $480,000 to assist the with the cleaning of areas in Golden Grove, as well as the Golden Grove and Nabaclis Cemeteries.

The “A Clean Environment Project” was launched in April 2017, with the “Best Kept School Competition” in Region 5, and has been supporting communities through the provision of bins, streetlights, seedlings and fruit trees, to help them promote cleanliness and green growth. Some communities have also received signage, garbage bags and garden and cleaning tools including cutlasses, wheelbarrows and rakes. To date, over fifteen (15) communities have benefitted from the successful project.

Mining and logging communities of Maburama, Kamarang, Port Kaituma, Baramita, Mahdia, Puruni and Linden as well as Kwakwani, Coomaca and Orella have received support under the project as well as the towns of New Amsterdam, Rose Hall and Corriverton.  Best Village in Region three (3), Good Hope Cemetery, and PlayGround in Region four (4), along with some communities along the coast also benefitted from supplies, while tree-planting and beautification exercises were done in Iwokrama and at Cashew Grove in Lethem, Region 9.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is very proud of the project and thankful to Environmental Awareness Coordinator  at the Ministry, Dr. Latchmin Budhan-Punalall as well as the leaders and residents of recipient communities, sister agencies, partner organizations and all stakeholders who participated in the exercises.

The Ministry encourages every Guyanese to take responsibility and action to keep the environment clean and sustainable in keeping with Guyana’s ‘green’ development.
