Eastern airlines mis-averages taxiway at CJIA

—all incoming passengers arrived safely

—outbound flight delayed

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, July 15, 2020

An Eastern Airlines plane arriving from Miami, Florida skidded off the taxiway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) this afternoon.

The incident occurred as the plane taxied after landing; leaving the landing gear at the back-right of the plane stuck in the grass alongside the taxiway.

An official at CJIA told DPI the incident appears to be caused by pilot error since the plane landed with ease on the extended runway.

Onboard the plane was 201 returning Guyanese who were previously stranded in the US

According to the official, there were no injuries reported by any of the passengers. Tuesday’s incident has delayed the airline’s outbound flight to Miami.

This is the first such incident for Eastern Airlines at CJIA since the airline has commenced operations. The airline has regularly operated repatriation flights between Guyana and the United States of America.
