DPI, Guyana, Monday, February 3, 2020

New entrant Eastern Airlines has committed to providing competitive services to Guyanese as the local aviation market expands with more airlines and additional routes coming on board.

From March 5, passengers will have another option to fly non-stop between New York and Guyana. Eastern Airlines outlined its plans for its new destination at a meet and greet at the Marriott Hotel on Monday.

According to Branding Agent Graceann Bennett, the company values the Guyana market.

“Eastern Airlines is all about serving underserved markets from around the globe and open that with low-cost fares with liberal baggage policy so that we can serve more of the world,” Bennett said.

Direct flights between New York and Guyana will be scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays, with an aircraft capable of taking approximately 200 passengers onboard. As part of its contingency plan, the airline will also have an aircraft stationed in Miami in the event of emergencies.

Eastern Airlines boasts of having some of the best baggage fees on the market. The first checked bag comes at no additional cost and can weigh up to 70 pounds.

Meanwhile, unaccompanied minors from ages 7-13 will benefit from reduced airfares of USD$150 while senior citizens will also receive travel discounts.

Concerning its onboard services, the airline said it was committed to providing foods of Guyanese origin on each flight. Halaal and kosher food will also be available options for passengers.

Though the airline is cashless – purchases will be done electronically – Marketing Director Josh Bustos disclosed that other avenues for ticket purchases are being explored.

Several attendees at Monday’s event were winners of ticket giveaways by the Eastern Airlines.

Speaking to DPI, ticket winner and travel agent Manassay Williams praised the airline’s arrival.

“As a travel agent, this airline has tremendous deals, it has tremendous benefits,” Manassay remarked.

Debra Barron, who also won a roundtrip ticket for two, commented, “When all these airlines are coming to Guyana, at least we will have competition. At least we will have good fares for the Guyanese public.”

Eastern Airlines flights will provide economy and premium seating.
