Economic cooperation, rebuilding ties, primary focus says new Foreign Affairs Minister.

The Hon. Hugh Todd, newly-appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs says he is anticipating meeting his new team at his assigned Ministry and to getting down to work. The minister spoke with the Department of Public Information (DPI), after taking the Oath of Office on Wednesday.

“As the new minister, I’m excited to meet the new team and start working on advancing our foreign diplomacy and economic corporation.” Minister Todd told DPI.

He said the focus will be on transforming the country’s image, to encourage economic cooperation.

“Generally, we need to start rebuilding our international image. So, our international diplomacy will be a priority for us, added to that, we will have to work on our economic cooperation,” the Foreign Affairs Minister emphasised.

Minister Todd added that renewing ties with other nations was also important at this time. “We have to rebuild our ties, stimulating investment. We have a lot of plans instore,” he stated.

Adding that most of what will be taking place at the Foreign Affairs Ministry will be guided by the President himself.

The Hon. Minister said he planned to rely on the competent team there, at the Ministry, as there is already a structure in place.

Previously, Minister Todd has held the position of Assistant Dean in the School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation at Guyana’s premier educational institute, the University of Guyana.
