Education Minister refutes claim to slash teachers, cleaners, salaries
Minister of Education, the Hon. Priya Manickchand has refuted claims that the PPP/C government plan to cut the salaries of teachers and sweeper cleaners across Guyana.
In a statement posted to her Facebook page, Minister Manickchand described the two voice notes being circulated on social media platforms as “absolutely untrue.”
The Minister stated that the voice notes “mirror the mischief of voice notes crafted by the APNU/AFC that were distributed during the elections. So most likely it is that kind of political mischief that is intended. I invite you to ignore and rubbish it.”
The Education Minister re-emphasised that the PPP/C Government is committed to “delivering education equitably in safe spaces and to ensuring our teachers are adequately compensated.”
The Minister called for all Guyanese to contribute to the development and safety of the nation’s youths and teachers during this pandemic and to refrain from causing confusion
