Education Ministry launches National Grade Six App

DPI, GUYANA, Tuesday, February 13, 2018

The Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with STEM Guyana, today launched a National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) App at the National Centre for Educational Development (NCERD). This intervention is part of the MoE’s continued efforts to improve performance among grade six children across Guyana.

According to the Ministry, the App which was built by STEM Guyana is available for download on the Google PlayStore (N.G.S.A Practice Exams). It covers the four core subjects, sat at the NGSA examination – those being Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and English Language. The App has monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to guide teachers and parents.

In her address at the launching, First Lady H.E. Sandra Granger said that she was excited about the launch and quipped that it was her belief that this intervention can only improve the children’s performance. Further, the First Lady charged parents and guardians to continue to partner with the ministry for the benefit of the children.

Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry in her address said the nation’s future lies in the ability of our students to master academics as well vocational skills.

Minister Henry further said that her ministry is adamant about its objective to improve students’ performance at internal and external examinations.

The minister explained that it was her dream for every National Grade Six candidate to be fully prepared and to be successful in their Grade Six Assessment. “We, therefore, welcome all assistance towards accomplishing this goal.”
