(May 9, 2018) – The Ministry of Education once again has given its support to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Guyana team as the unit prepares to participate in the First Global Robotics Olympics in Mexico City in July this year.

Minister of Education, Hon. Nicolette Henry hands-over the cheque to First Lady Mrs. Sandra Granger in the presence of the STEM Guyana Team and Senior Officers of the Ministry of Education.

The cheque, valued at $6M was handed-over today at State House to the team by Minister of Education, Hon. The First Lady thanked the Ministry for offering its support from the inception as she recalled that the education Ministry had also supported the team last year when it participated in the first International Robot Olympics that was held in Washington D.C., U.S.A.

She said that the support from the Ministry will help the team as its members continue their preparation to compete in Mexico by focusing on their competition robot.

Minister Henry thanked the STEM Guyana Team for giving the Ministry the opportunity to offer its support since she believes it is a wonderful programme. She said that the Ministry is more than happy to provide support to the nation’s youth and that they are deserving of recognition on the world stage.

Last year, when the team had participated in the First Global Challenge in Washington, they placed 10th out of 164 participating countries. That performance was commendable since it was their first time competing. The team was encouraged to do their best in this 2018 competition and to make their country proud.
