Education Ministry participates in plant distribution to promote tree planting

The Ministry of Education distributed a number of plants to staff today in an effort to encourage them to cultivate same at home or within their communities. The distribution took place at the Ministry of Education’s 21 Brickdam Office and was coordinated by Principal Assistant Secretary (General), Mr. Kapildeo Loknauth and Assistant Secretary (General), Ms. Patricia Stephen.

Among the variety of plants distributed were fruit trees such as lime, tangerine and gooseberry. The initiative came about from a request by the Ministry of Agriculture for the Education Ministry to participate in its Tree Planting initiative to mark Agriculture Month 2018 and National Tree Day which will be recognised tomorrow.

Additionally, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Secretary-General in Guyana, Ms. Patrice LaFleur and staff held a tree-planting exercise at the La Bonne Intention Secondary School and the East Ruimveldt Secondary School today to also mark National Tree Day.
