Eight schools compete in third leg of Standards in Academia Quiz

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) on Wednesday hosted its third Standards in Academia Primary School Quiz at the Sophia Exhibition Complex-Benab.

The competition saw students from eight primary schools in Region Four participating in several games including a Spelling Bee, True and False, Short Answers and Fill in the Blanks on Standardisation in Guyana. The initiative is aimed at educating students of primary schools across Guyana on the services of the GNBS and aspects relating to Standardisation.

Executive Director of the GNBS, Candelle Walcott-Bostwick said she was happy to collaborate with the Ministry of Education on the initiative. She encouraged the students to continue to visit the bureau’s website to keep abreast of the agency’s activities to improve the quality of life and push for standardisation and quality locally.

Ministry of Education’s representative, Lorna Harris-Muhammed expressed gratitude to the GNBS noting that, “through the programme, the pupils are made aware of the benefits of standards in society”.

The first leg of the competition took place on February 15 at the Wellington Park Primary School, Corentyne, Berbice and saw the participation of nine schools.
