“The well was drilled to 90 metres with little production which cannot feed the community.  The contractor, Fox Services, encountered some challenges with their equipment while drilling and had to return to Georgetown to have it addressed,” Minister Croal said.

He added that “GWI has not accepted the well nor has made any payment since the well is intended to be drilled to a maximum depth of 150 metres.”

Th drilling equipment has since been repaired and the GWI requested that the contractors complete another well in Port Kaituma, Region One, before heading back to the deep south border region.

“GWI mobilised to complete a well in Port Kaituma within the next three weeks, because of the availability of the vessel to transport the drilling equipment,” Minister Croal said.

On its completion, the contractors will complete the El Paso well, the Minister said.

The well to supply water to El Paso was a collaboration between the Mahdia Town Council and GWI. The Town Council provided $4.5 million to the $5.1 million well.

Once completed, it will be connected to the GWI system to bring more potable water to the riverine community.
