Speaking with Info Hub in an interview, Project Manager for Donor Programmes at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Mark Green said that he is pleased that the public is making full use of the lifts on the overpasses.

Green highlighted that measures such as a monitoring system which will be implemented at the Demerara Harbor Bridge to ensure that vandals will not be able to damage the structures.

“We have had cases of vandalism, where people put graffiti on the structures or stole lights. So, we will use the cameras to monitor them and we are appealing to the public to not cast a blind eye,” Project Manager Mark Green said.

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure is urging the public to report anyone caught vandalising the facility to the Guyana Police Force, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure or the Demerara Harbor Bridge.

The pedestrian overpasses will not only improve road safety by keeping pedestrian safe from fatal accidents but will also help to eliminate congestion on the EBD road which is among the busiest in the country.
