Essequibo electricity to return to normalcy tomorrow midday

DPI, GUYANA, Friday, July 14, 2017

Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson today, confirmed to the Department of Public Information (DPI) that electricity will return to Region Two, Pomeroon/ Supenaam by Saturday mid-day.

Minister Patterson highlighted that emergency funds were used from the Ministry’s budget to purchase the necessary parts to repair the two units, he added that the parts are currently being installed.

The Minister also revealed that three new units have been purchased and will be in the country by early October. The units should be fully operational by November.

The northern part of the Essequibo coast has been plagued by a series of blackouts inconveniencing residents, over the last week. The power outages stemmed from two of the three aged old units, from the Anna Regina power station, failing.

All three of the units at the power station have been in existence beyond their life span of 20 years challenging electricity distribution in the region.

The Minister apologised for the inconvenience and urged the residents to remain patient as the ministry intensifies its efforts to restore normal power supply to the region.
