Essequibo Residents optimistic after voting at LGE

As voting at the Local Government Elections (LGE) unfolded residents on the Essequibo Coast travelled to their respective polling stations to exercise their constitutional right.
Speaking with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Regional Vice-Chairman Region Two, Juliet Coonjah noted that several polling stations along the coast commenced operations promptly at 6:00hrs.
Coonjah urged residents to “come out and cast their ballots” as it is their democratic right to elect a candidate, they deem suitable to run the Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
Also speaking with DPI was Returning Officer of Annandale/Riverstown, Ian Hudson who noted that the proceedings for that district “got off to good start.” He stated that the voter turnout has been “fair so far”
Eighty-two-year-old Abdul Sattur from Adventure, Essequibo Coast related that the voting process was “fast and easy”. He told DPI that he hopes that there will be further improvement in the community after the election results are announced.
Another Adventure resident, Shiv Narine shared similar sentiments. He too found the voting process to be simple and hopes to see development in his community.
Winston La Rose, Pomona Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast said,” We voted for change and we must see changes.”
