EU pledges to work closely with new PPP/c Government

─ Ambassador calls on Minister McCoy today

The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Guyana, His Excellency Fernando Ponz Cantó, has reiterated his commitment in strengthening ties with Guyana and working closely to transform the nation.

Today, Ambassador Cantó paid a courtesy call to Minister of Public Affairs, within the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Kwame McCoy, at his Colgrain House, Camp Street office.

“The European Union (EU) and Guyana have a very long-standing partnership, that it is now an opportunity to make it even stronger, even better for the benefit of the Guyanese and the benefit of the Europeans.” Ambassador Cantó said.

The Ambassador added “We had a very useful conversation, including on the Minister plans to enhance professionalism and do many reforms, and I told him again that the European Union will continue to work together and to stand by the side of Guyana in this new period that starts now.”

Further, he congratulated Minister McCoy on his new portfolio and promised continuous support in his sector.

Minister McCoy expressed confidence in the European Union, adding that he looks forward to “great things”.

“We will be following up in the future with other discussions which will be narrowed down and point us in the direction to programmes we can work on  together to bring benefit to the people of Guyana in general, to better our workers in the communication and information field working with the Government,” the Public Affairs Minister expressed.
