DPI, Guyana, Thursday, April 30, 2020

Three ranks of the Guyana Defence Force are now dead and another injured following an early morning explosion.

The injured rank is currently receiving medical treatment.

The deadly blast which was confirmed by the GDF, occurred at the Arms Store Complex at Timehri around 09:00 hours.

The circumstances of the explosion are being investigated.

However, a release issued by the GDF stated that “preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the soldiers were involved in the preparation of pyrotechnics for demolition when the incident occurred.”

Earlier this year, a soldier lost his life and several injured in a fireworks explosion while preparing to celebrate Guyana’s Jubilee Republic anniversary in February.
