Extended working hours for GECOM numerators

─ to facilitate August 31st House-to-House Registration deadline

─ numerators will now work from 10am to 7pm

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, August 28, 2019

From August 29, enumerators from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) will begin working extended hours to facilitate the August 31 deadline for House-to-House Registration.

This announcement came from Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon, during a community meeting at La Retraite Primary School in Region 3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).

“The Guyana Elections Commission [GECOM] has put in place some arrangements which will extend the time that the GECOM officers work. They normally work from 3 in the afternoon to about 7pm or so,” DG Harmon explained.

During his update to residents on matters relating to elections and GECOM, the Director-General explained that the extended work hours was necessary. He noted too that government agencies and private companies will be asked to do their part to facilitate this process.

“We will ask the government agencies, private sector agencies to allow their employees to be home so they can register. It’s a public service which we will ask of every employer to ensure that their employee get the opportunity to [do], register at their homes,” DG Harmon noted.

This week, GECOM Chair, (retd) Justice Claudette Singh, ordered that the House-to-House Registration process to continue until August 31. She noted that the data from the ongoing process is to be merged with existing National Register of Registrants Database to produce a credible Official List of Electors (OLE).
