ExxonMobil sponsors Amazon Warriors in CPL bid

ExxonMobil has once again come on board as the sponsor for the Amazon Warriors as the team prepares for the seventh Hero Caribbean Premiere League (CPL) match.
At the signing of the sponsorship agreement held at Marriot Hotel, today ExxonMobil’s Country Manager Rod Henson noted that the game of cricket unifies people.
“Sport has a way of bringing people for the love of the game. Sport has a way of allowing people to forget about their troubles and worries…The Amazon Warriors represent the diversity of Guyana. The team has similar values to ExxonMobil; we both try to accomplish our jobs with the excellence we try to best while partnering with other communities to provide benefits,” he said.
Operations Manager for the Amazon Warriors, Omar Khan said the franchise is geared towards the development of young cricketers in Guyana.
“We have demonstrated our commitment to the young cricketers of Guyana players and through the help of ExxonMobil, we have been able to help these young cricketers develop.”
Khan said the team will be led by former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik in this year’s CPL tournament. Malik made his debut for Pakistan in a One-Day International (ODI) in 1999, he has played in 345 domestic T20 games, scoring 8 700 runs at a strike rate of 125 and picking up 136 wickets at an economy rate of 7.02. He previously played for Barbados Tridents, in 44 CPL games and has a record of 1 390 runs with 10 fifties, and has caught 10 wickets.
Meanwhile, first-timer Nicholas Pooran is prepared to take the tournament by storm. “I am really looking forward to 2019 season with Guyana… I will do my best to ensure Guyana is successful this year,” he said.
Members of the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad are: Shadab Khan, Nicholas Pooran, Shoaib Malik, Shimron Hetmyer, Ben Laughlin, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, Brandon King, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Keagan Simmons, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Veerasammy, Permaul, Anthony Bramble, Clinton Pestano and Saurab Netravalkar.
The CPL matches bowl off on September 4 in Trinidad and Tobago. Matches in Guyana start on September 5 with Amazon Warriors playing St Lucia Zouks, while on Saturday, September 7, the Warriors will take on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
