Fifty Six more patient care providers graduate

Fifty-six students graduated today from a six-month Patient Care Assistance Programme facilitated by the Guyana Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
They were exposed to training in Anatomy, Clinical Skills, Practical Skills, as well as bed making, physical and hygiene care for patients.
Clinical Instructor, Jennifer Peterkin stated that the graduates received the opportunity to be trained by qualified and registered nurses attached to the GPHC. The graduates came from as far as Region 9 and will return to their districts for employment.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer for GPHC, Elizabeth Gonsalves shared with the graduates that they have chosen a noble career and they should keep in mind to be the best caregivers. She mentioned the high demand of health officials needed countrywide and urge the batch of PCA’s to seek further academic elevation.
Director Regional Health Services attached to the Ministry of Public Health. Dr. Kay Shako gave the featured address to the gathering and highlighted the importance to give equal healthcare services to all patients, despite their background or ethnicity.
“Treat your patient well. It depends on your drive and passion. Your patients’ lives are in your hands. Be honest about your mistakes, it’s the way to improving the health system” Dr. Shako told them.
The best graduating student and valedictorian went to Paul Alfred who came all the way from Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo, Region 9, who said briefly it was always his dream to become a nurse and that he put aside the stigma of men being in the career.
