Finance Ministry seeking to curtail GuySuCo’s financial issue

The Ministry of Finance is seeking to put arrangements in place to address the financial issues at the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).

The swift response by the ministry follows a letter written to His Excellency President David Granger by GuySuCo’s Chairman John Dow concerning the sugar company’s current financial issues.

In the letter, it was noted that COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the issue of meeting the production targets for the first crop of 2020. This along with other matters that need addressing were highlighted.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of the Presidency (MOTP) today, Finance Minister the Hon. Winston Jordan and Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. Noel Holder met with President Granger, to determine ways in which the current issue can be resolved.

MOTP said Minister Jordon is putting some arrangements in place to resolve the ongoing crisis facing the sector.
