First day of September school term a success!

Min. Henry visits schools across three regions

DPI, Guyana, Monday, September 2, 2019

As schools reopened across the country today, Education Minister, Hon. Dr. Nicolette Henry visited several institutions in Regions 4, 5 and 6.

The minister inspected several ICT and Science laboratories and Home Economics rooms at the schools. She also reiterated that support for teachers, parents and students is at the forefront of her ministry’s work.

“I also want to commend the teachers and the administration for the preparation and the work they’ve done to make your first day of school very comfortable,” Minister Henry said.

“The ministry values greatly your contribution to national development and particularly the work that you’re doing in classrooms throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. We will continue to ensure that teachers are adequately prepared, supported and trained to be in the classroom,” she added.

The excitement continued as Minister Henry engaged students and teachers and listened to their concerns.

“There are a few schools in the regions that I’ll be looking at, I wanted to ensure that they’re ready, that the conditions are conducive to learning, that the teachers are prepared and the classrooms ready.”

She noted that the students will be turning out in their numbers, therefore, “we need to hit the ground running because there is much to be done in the education sector and we need all hands on deck.”

Schools visited today include President’s College, Helena Nursery, and Golden Grove Primary in Region 4, Cotton Tree Primary, No. 5 Nursery, and Fort Wellington in Region 5 and New Amsterdam Secondary, Savannah Park Nursery and St. Aloysius Primary in Region 6.

Almost 1,000 schools were opened today at the beginning of Education Month, themed “Education: Key to National Development”
