First Lady receives courtesy call from UNFPA representatives

Georgetown, Guyana — (May 9, 2018) First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, on May 4, received a courtesy call from the Director of the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) Sub Regional Office for the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean, Ms. Alison Drayton. She was accompanied to State House by Liaison Officer, Mr. Adler Bynoe.

The purpose of the meeting, Ms. Drayton indicated, was to follow up on previous discussions held with Mrs. Granger, who is the Vice-Chairperson of the Spouses of Caribbean Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) which was established to tackle issues related to the health and well-being of women, adolescents and children in the Caribbean, on future collaborative efforts particularly with respect to the Every Caribbean Woman Every Caribbean Child initiative.

“So I want to follow up with Mrs. Granger on what she sees as some of the priorities heading forward to year two of the establishment of the network… in particular, she [First Lady] is working in the area of adolescent pregnancy, which is UNFPA’s key priority in the region, so I wanted to catch up on how her initiatives are going and how we can support that mission,” Mrs. Drayton said

UNFPA is the world’s largest international source of funding for population and reproductive health programmes.
