Ramphal said that while he is considered more dominant in the Chutney competition as it is a familiar field, his participation in the Soca Monarch competition is a direction that he hopes will yield great results.

According to the semi-finalist, his song ‘Soca in Meh Veins’ is based on the energy and the love that the general public experiences during the Mashramani season while ‘Rang Ke Bhare’ [Forget about Your Colour] aims to tackle colourism in the country.

“Now that I am entering the Soca industry my song has a positive energy not only to bring my country together, but I want to bring Caribbean countries together…. While Rang Ke Bhare is tackling colourism in our community because at this point, we tend to see a lot of division and I tried to infuse that into my song tackling what I want our country to have harmony, love and peace,” Ramphal explained.

During the separate competitions, he hopes to give all Guyanese a clear message to unite as ‘One People, One Nation and One Destiny’.

Ramphal said that he hopes everyone comes to support him and the competitors noting, “I do not want to be bias or selfish. The love that we share amongst each other as artistes, I want that same kind of love from everyone out there despite persons will have their own favourite… but for me, I want love to prevail.”

Fans can see Ramphal in full flow during his Chutney and Soca rehearsals at the Seawalls bandstand on January 27 and February 1, respectively.

Carib Soca Monarch finals will be held on February 16 at D’Urban Park while Chutney Extravaganza Song Competition Final and Duck Curry Competition will be held on February 17 at Anna Regina Community Centre, Region 2.
