The Minister encouraged those present to not betray the sacrifices of those who fought for Guyana’s Independence. “We have too much at stake, we are a nation of six peoples, vast rainforests, mighty rivers and endless natural resources,” the Minister said. “Our most important but under- appreciated resource, is our people,” she pointed out. Guyana has less than a million people, but possesses enormous talents, skills, intellect and other admirable human attributes. She noted that once all Guyanese work together, the country will move forward into a modern, model nation state. The Minister said that the nation must tap into each individual, their talents, skills, expertise and ideas for the country to move forward. Minister Garrido-Lowe pointed out that all the natural resources which Guyana possesses will mean nothing if the people do not collectively join hands, hearts and minds to responsibly exploit these resources in the best interest of the people now and for future generations . The Minister commended the region on their clean and tidy surroundings, and implored the residents to continue to be an example to the rest of the nation. The Minister told residents the government has a plan for Region Two, stating that it is one of the most productive agricultural regions. Additionally, Minister Garrudo-Lowe said that the region plays an integral role in feeding Guyana. Regional Chairman, Davenand Ramdatt in his remarks said that as Guyana celebrates another milestone, it is vital for every citizen to reflect on the sacrifices of the country’s ancestors and be inspired to continue to dedicate their service for a brighter future that all Guyanese deserve. He said that “over the years, Region Two has set high standards for the rest of Guyana by fostering harmony among all.” He added that it is equally important for everyone to work with a common vision.
