DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, April 16, 2019

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, on Tuesday evening, reassured residents of Fyrish and surrounding communities on the Corentyne, that their community infrastructure matters will be addressed.

The Minister of State met with members of the community following the ‘Government comes to you’ outreach which was held at the University of Guyana’s Tain Campus. During his engagement with the people, several concerns were raised with regards to the state of the roads and the rehabilitation of the community centre ground.

Minister Harmon told the residents that rehabilitation of the ground was raised earlier in the day during the outreach and the Department of Social Cohesion will address the matter.

“The Department under the Ministry of Social Cohesion has undertaken to address this matter urgently” he related further expressing government’s belief that “all citizens in a community have equal access to public places”.

He noted that the public infrastructure issue was raised several times disclosing that a decision was taken to pay attention to communities such as Fyrish.

“I am going to ask my colleague, the Minister of Public Infrastructure to look at a special project for this community to deal with the roads, drains and light,” he promised.

The minister urged the residents to cooperate with officials once the developmental projects commence as they will be beneficial to all members of the community.
