GEM Granites Group to begin operations in 2019

─ group is in Guyana in response to an invitation by Natural Resources Minister

The renowned GEM Granites Group from Tamil Nadu, India is expected to start operations in Guyana next year with the initial export of granite stone products and timber.

This assurance was given by GEM Director, Gunasekaran Raju this morning when he and a team paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo. The group also included Executive Director, Binu Thomas along with the company’s Timber Quality Analyst and Consultant for Furniture Design, Saravanan Krishnan.

According to a press statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, Gunasekaran Raju Raju has “lauded the country’s vast land space, expansive forests and granite potentials.” The Director revealed that “GEM Group was positive about investment in Guyana.”

It was noted that Gem would start operations in Guyana once it locates the right granite for dimensional blocks and calibrated tiles. During their visit, the group met with several Government Ministers and forestry and mining officials.

The release also stated that the GEM Granite group is in Guyana in response to an invitation by the Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.

The Gem Group is headed by R. Veeramani, a lawyer who became a leading investor in granite mining, sugar manufacturing, biomass electric power generation, and textile and garment production. The Group also has an interest in resort health hotels and housing apartments.
