GNBS outlines expectations for importation of used tyres

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) has outlined its expectations for the importation of used tyres in keeping with the budget measures announced by the Government last month.

GNBS is advising importers to ensure that all imported tyres comply with the requirements of the Guyana Standard Specification for pneumatic passenger car tyres GYS 67:2017 (Second Edition).

Imported tyres are to be examined by GNBS upon importation to determine compliance with the requirements of the National Standard. GNBS will seize/destroy non-complying tyres.

Further, GNBS has tasked importers to familiarise themselves with the requirements stipulated in the aforementioned standard, which can be purchased from the bureau.

Interested importers can contact the Product Compliance Services Department of the GNBS on 219-0066 EXT 237 or via WhatsApp on 692-4267 for additional information.

The importation of half-cut vehicles, vehicles over eight years old and a 50 per cent reduction fee on any licence were also part of the Government’s new vehicle budget measures.

The PPP/C Government’s measures are meant to make vehicle ownership more accessible and affordable by rolling back several impositions by the APNU+AFC administration.
