Students and other stakeholders of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara and West Minister, West Bank Demerara are soon to benefit from the construction of new school buildings.
The Ministry of Education today signed two contracts for the construction of the two secondary schools, which Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry says are in keeping with the ministry’s move towards modern, futuristic educational institutions.
“These are two important contracts for us because we are seeing what we expect would be two new secondary schools. It is important that we have these done in a way that is modern and futuristic in some ways and certainly meet good practices and standards.”
The schools will be furnished with multipurpose halls, Home Economics buildings, Science and computer laboratories, audiovisual rooms and industrial technology rooms.
The contracts, which were awarded to R. Bassoo Construction for the construction of the Westminster Secondary school and B.K International for the construction of the Good Hope Secondary school, are valued at US$4.5 and US$4.82M respectively.
The Westminster School will be built with a capacity for 1,000 students, while the Good Hope school will house 800 students.
The construction of the schools is expected to last for 15 months.
