Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, while meeting citizens at the government outreach today, noted that it has been a day for the people.

“They would have come out and they would have met with the ministers and spoken with different government officials on various issues that affect them and touch their lives,” he remarked whilst visiting the booths erected at the Square of the Revolution during the Government Meets the Public exercise.

In an invited comment, the Prime Minister shared his elation that Guyanese were given the opportunity to meet with their Government Ministers and officials to alleviate issues they are facing. “It gives you a good feeling to touch base with the grassroots, it is a wonderful exercise and it should happen on a permanent basis.”

“You should not force people to come to the government, the government must go to the people,” Prime Minister stated while explaining that it is the administration’s mandate to decentralise all government services.  “This government has really set an example of the devolution of authority, decentralisation and taking services to the people, this is a wonderful experience.”

Whilst at the outreach Prime Minister Nagamootoo noted that the Central Housing and Planning booth was one of the most sought after since it received many patrons. “What I observed was that most of the attention was paid to those who are in seeking either a house lot or a housing unit and most were young people.”

Prime Minister Nagamootoo said the outreach is not a new exercise; he reminded that the government began these outreaches soon after assuming office in 2015. The first such event held at the Square of the Revolution and then taken to Regions 10, Nine, Six and Two.
