people’s welfare trumps politics- President tells Region 10

His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, this morning, says the Government stands ready to meet the needs of all Guyanese and intends to do so without reservation.

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali addresses residents in Linden, Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region 10).

The Head of State made this statement at Watooka House, Linden, where he is meeting with residents of Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region 10).

“My Government has made it very clear that our only intention is to serve the people of this country and serve all the people of this country. I do not concern myself with the politics of any community, I only concern myself with the welfare of that community.”

Meanwhile, Regional Chairman, Mr. Deron Adams told the Head of State that the Region was facing many challenges.  He said his administration would work with the Central Government and would soon document and submit the areas of concern.

In response, President Ali said Region 10 can rest assured that his Government is ready to fulfill its mandate and commitment to enhance their lives.

“This is not a political role; this is a developmental role. The political role ends at the elections. After that we all have to come together in a developmental mode to advance communities, advance country and advance the lives of the people. Regional Chairman, you are knocking on open doors,” he said.

President Ali acknowledged the dire need for housing in the Region, which he said received very little attention over the last few years.

“The demand has gotten greater because the investment was not there to meet that demand or satisfy that demand. I want to assure you that we are going to put back the energy, the vibrancy back into housing and create the opportunities here and meet the needs of the people.”

The President said however, that the issue is not only access to land, but ensuring the transformation of the land into assets.

“How we can work for the people and the community to transform the land into asset and raise the value of the community to bring economic wealth of the people. We want to sit down with the farmers of this region, because we want to develop a master plan through which we can increase our productive capacity in agriculture all the other segments in the economy.”
