Govt’s toy drive taken to Region Nine

DPI, Guyana, Monday, December 24, 2018

Hundreds of children from several Region Nine communities including Fairview, Wowetta, Annai and Aranaputa in the North Rupununi and St. Ignatius in Central Rupununi benefitted from the government’s annual Christmas toy drive over the weekend.

The first stop was Fairview where Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Sydney Allicock distributed over 170 toys to the children at the village’s old primary school.

At Annai, over 100 children gathered at the Village Benab to receive their toys; at Aranaputa another 100 were assembled, at Wowetta, 80 and over 100 children in the community of St Ignatius.

Minister Allicock said the initiative ensures all of Guyana’s children are remembered during this season of sharing and caring.

As 2019 fast approaches, Minister Allicock encouraged the residents to continue to work in unity for the development of their communities.

The toys were donated by BK International, JR Ranch along with the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs.
