Earlier in the year, senior health officials had projected that the new wing would be completed by the third quarter of the year. It is expected that the entire building will be fully occupied in a few weeks.

The new maternity wing has six birthing rooms and two operating theatres.

Currently, there are approximately 110 patient beds in the old maternity ward unit. The ground floor of this new facility has training rooms and offices for doctor and staff .

The new maternity wing project started in February 2015 with $263M. The project received an additional $89M in the 2016 Budget.
