The Georgetown Public Hospital’s Psychiatric Clinic will soon be relocated to the recently constructed Mental Health Institute, located at Lot 252 Quamina Street, South Cummingsburg.

The Mental Health Institute in Quamina Street.

The Psychiatric Clinic, a unit at the GPHC for several years, offers services both on an in-patient and out-patient basis. The vision is to recognise the new location as a specialised unit treating patients according to their level of diagnosis.

Built at the cost of $61.2Million, the Mental Health Institute has been touted by the Ministry of Public Health as one that will provide a higher standard of mental health service.

Steps are being taken to adequately address mental health issues, with a focus on patient-centered outpatient services. In addition to training for specialists and other relevant mental health practitioners, the institute will offer counselling and occupational therapy.

The building was occupied by the Mental Health Unit during the month of February after internal works were done. The official opening of the institute is expected shortly.
