GPL Inc. is taking all necessary precautionary measures to protect employees and customers

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Incorporated writes this correspondence as a formal response to a Letter to the Editor titled “All is not well at GPL” which was published on the online news platform “Village Voice GY” on October 3, 2020. In that letter, signed by “Concerned Staff” of our company, the writers expressed continued concern about “a change in crucial areas as it relates to the working environment, safety protocols and professionalism”. Among these concerns include measures that is currently in place to protect staff amidst the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic.

Following the announcement of COVID-19 Pandemic in March 2020, GPL Inc. has provided all necessary sanitizing products and masks for use by staff during the pandemic. These items are frequently replenished as required to ensure that staff have continued access to them during their day to day operations. Additionally, GPL Inc. has implemented increased online services to reduce office visits. These services included, but was not limited to, our 24/7 Online Live Chat, online applications and queries and 24/7 emergency numbers where customers can access our Call Centre team. However, customers who were allowed to conduct in-house services were required to observe COVID-19 protocols such as wearing face masks, practising social distancing, using hand sanitizer and undergoing temperature screening.

Resultant, GPL Inc. understands that there will be frustrations that arise as we continue to adjust to the unprecedented changes brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, our Company remains committed to ensuring that all avenues are explored as we continually seek new measures that can increase the safety of our staff and customers as we continue to fight the effects of COVID-19 Pandemic
