GRDB distributes booklet on improved paddy cultivation

As the PPP/C Government steps up efforts to improve the Agriculture sector, today, the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) handed over a number of booklets outlining Improved Agronomic Practices for paddy cultivation in Guyana to the facility’s Extension Officers.

The improved methods detailed in the 10-step booklet are Soil Management, Plot Size, Quality Seed Paddy, Choice of Variety, Time of Sowing, Seed Rate, Seed Treatment, Weed Control, Balanced Nutrition, Water Management and the monitoring of plots for both beneficial and harmful insects and diseases.

During the handover of the publications at the GRDB’s boardroom, several Regional Supervisors, Extension Managers and Extension Officers received copies of the publication; which will be distributed to farmers in their respective areas.

With the improved practices outlined in the booklets and guidance from the Extension Officers, it is expected that the farmers can maximise their yield and as a result their profits. The GRDB Extension team will implement the use of the Farmers Field School Approach, Field Visits, Field Days, Farmer to Farmer approach and various Farmer Outreaches, to ensure these practices are well received by the farmers

The booklet can be accessed on the GRDB’s website; https://grdb.gy/
