The township of Bartica lived up to its “green town” status on Friday when hundreds of supporters of the coalition donned their green and yellow t-shirts and attended a rally in the region seven mining town.

The first speaker to address party supporters was former Deputy Mayor of Bartica, Kamal Persaud, who outlined some areas of development in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region, in the last four years under the coalition government.

Citing His Excellency President David Granger’s Public Education Transportation Service (PETS) programme, otherwise known as the Five Bs Programme (Boats, Buses, Bicycles, Books and Breakfast), Persaud said education has improved tremendously, with the training of more teachers and upgrade of schools and educational institutions.

She also mentioned the advancement of the Bartica Regional Hospital.  “Under the PPP Bartica had four doctors at its regional hospital. Under this APNU+AFC government, we have 16 doctors to care for us Guyanese” Persaud said to a cheering crowd.

Persaud followed up by also announcing a reduced maternal death rate in the region.

Following Persaud, was former Member of Parliament, Mervyn Williams, who also spoke of the tremendous strides made in Region Seven in the last four years.

Williams reminded of the improvement in the area of national security, stating specifically that there has been no extra-judicial killing since the APNU+AFC went into office in 2015. “Not one extra-judicial murder took place in the last four years,” he announced.

Pointing to the infrastructural transformations he mentioned the $328Million Bartica-Potato road which has been completed with concrete rigid pavement and LED light installed.

The road from Four Miles to Five Miles now connects the lower and upper Mazaruni via land and leads the way to region eight.

The country’s development Williams noted went well beyond the coastal regions.

“Two billion dollars have been invested in training for Hinterland youths by this government,” Williams announced.
