Guyana and United Kingdom to further cooperation

During a courtesy call today, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency, Greg Quinn, conveyed congratulations to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Hugh Todd, on his recent appointment.

“We have had a lot of cooperation in the past, and we will do as much to continue,” said High

Commissioner Quinn.

Minister Todd expressed his gratitude to High Commissioner Quinn for his continued support.

“Moving forward, we see the United Kingdom as a main developmental partner. I am excited to be part of this new push between Guyana and the UK, and I am sure that our interactions will be progressive,” the Foreign Minister stated.

Furthermore, he emphasised that:

“We continue to be strong supporters of the UK. Our partnership is very valuable to the people of Guyana.”

Several areas of cooperation and mutual interest were discussed including, security, the Agreement on Air Services signed in 2018, Small Island Developing States (SIDS), development aid, and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Georgetown Mayor and City Council, for the twinning of Georgetown, Guyana and Aberdeen, Scotland.

Guyana and the United Kingdom established diplomatic relations on May 26, 1966.
