Guyana hosting Human Rights workshop in October

– Guyana host of the Least Developed Countries/ Small Island Developing States Trust Fund Workshop on Human Rights for Latin America and the Caribbean Region from October 29-31

Guyana will be hosting the Least Developed Countries/Small Island Developing States Trust Fund Workshop on Human Rights for Latin America and the Caribbean Region, in October of this year.

The event, announced by State Minister Joseph Harmon today, forms a significant part of a series of regional workshops to be held by the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights.

Minister Harmon said hosting of the workshop is a further indication of Guyana’s commitment to the promotion of human rights worldwide and especially among Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries.

The Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund to Support the Participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Work of the Human Rights Council is an effective, dynamic and results-oriented mechanism dedicated to LDCs and SIDS.
The LDCs/SIDS Trust Fund was established by the Human Rights Council (HRC) resolution on March 23, 2012.

The fund is managed by the Human Rights Council Branch of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) which provides funding for various activities such as training, participation in HRC sessions and fellowships.
