Mike Boyer, Site Director of Qualfon Guyana, a global provider of call centre back-office and business process outsourcing services regards Guyana as “world class” in his comparison to other operations in the Philippines, Columbia, Honduras, Belize and Guatemala.

“I spent 20 years in this business doing work for many multinational companies around the globe… Guyana is world class,” Boyer said while speaking at the sod turning ceremony for the state-of-the art multi-building campus in which Qualfon is investing.

 

 

“You work harder, you work smarter and you are nicer. We can’t teach that at Qualfon, that comes with your culture… treating people with respect, being courteous, helping, that gives you an edge against that competition,”

Qualfon Guyana started in 2005 and subsequently earned an award winning performance with employee tenure rates two times higher than the industry average, and an employer of about 1700 at its Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara location.

 

A company out of Mexico, Qualfon holds the reputation as the largest private employment provider in Guyana to date, has established a second location at Sparendaam on the East Coast Demerara, has created in excess of 2,000 jobs for mostly young Guyanese and will facilitate the creation of 6,000 jobs with the establishment of the state-of-the art multi-building campus at Providence on the East Bank of Demerara.

 

Minister of Finance Dr Ashni Singh who was a witness of today’s sod turning ceremony hailed the centre for what he described as an improvement in the lives of Guyanese and their families.

 

“Hundreds of indirect jobs… they have created in service providers, transportation providers, construction workers etc… they have done this in a rather quiet and unassuming manner,” Minister Singh said.

 

 

 

Confidence in the economy

 

 

 

Qualfon is one of four Information Communication Technology (ICT) investors operating in Guyana, and from the sentiments expressed by Boyer and Chief Executive Officer Mike Marrow; confidence in Guyana’s economy has been the main motivating factor behind the many investments.

 

“There are lots of countries that compete in this space, countries that we operate in but … we believe of all those locations the place to put one of the largest call centres in the world is right here,” Marrow said in his remarks.

 

Among those countries are Ireland, South Africa, India, China, the Philippines and several Latin American countries.

Its edge over the other Qualfon centres around the world has also been credited to the fact that English is the country’s national language, allowing the Centre to compile one of best sales teams that has proven its capability to “bring the horse to the water.”

 

 

Equally important is the enabling environment that has been created through the legislative framework, fibre optic cable infrastructure, ICT training in schools, and the One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) programme.
