Guyana positioned for economic, social transformation in 2019

Member of Parliament (MP) Michael Carrington stated that the 2019 budget is another financial plan which positions Guyana for further economic and social transformation.
He was at the time speaking on the first day of budget debates in the National Assembly.
Carrington explained, “This means improvement in living standards, infrastructural development and accessibility through foreign investment that will benefit citizens and make the country internationally competitive through the adoption of new technologies and greater productivity.”
The MP remarked that these are “necessary signposts of a society in transformation” further emphasising that these gradual changes will pave the way for “greater opportunities” for people empowerment. As such, he assured that the allocation of $7.2 Billion to Region Four, Demerara-Mahaica for 2019 will continue to advance the region’s growth and development.
According to Carrington, the allocation provides the foundation for infrastructural development across the region and more so, Guyana.
“This 2019 budget lays the foundation for the take-off in big-ticket infrastructure projects. We are laying the basis for proper housing, quality healthcare, improved education standards, better security and, above all a cleaner image of Guyana in all respects.”
Carrington told the National Assembly that the areas of health, infrastructure and education are “vital to any country’s quest for proper socio-economic development that will eventually lead to a quality life for its citizens.”
He divulged that in 2019, infrastructural works will commence with bridges and culverts being constructed where needed in villages across the region. In the education and health sectors, there are plans to rehabilitate schools and health centres.
“The works on the card for Region Four will benefit all of our citizens…this means all Guyanese, regardless of race, gender or political affiliation will benefit.”
Carrington stated that for Guyana to further develop, there needs to be unity among its people. He urged the National Assembly to unite for a common goal which is the betterment for the Guyanese people.
