Guyana records another COVID-19 death

—24 persons in quarantine

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has increased to 152 following the recording of two new cases.

Sadly, the ministry also disclosed that there was another COIVD-19 related, taking the toil number of deaths to 12. The deceased was a 78-year-old male resident of the Palms Geriatric Home.

Of the 152 confirmed cases Guyana has registered 67 recoveries.

To date, 1, 604 tests have been conducted yielding 1,452negative results.

There are currently 73 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana while 2 patients remain in the COVID-19 ICU at the GPHC.  Twenty-four persons are also in institutional quarantine.

Everyone is asked to always practice social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out.

Meanwhile, globally the WHO is reporting 5,701,337 confirmed cases with 357,688 deaths while in the Region of the Americas the total number of positive cases is 2,613,092 with deaths climbing to 151,212.
