Guyana to attend international fora in September

Guyana will be represented at two international forums at the end of September 2019. This was announced by Director-General (DG) of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon on Friday at a post-Cabinet media briefing.
Harmon stated that “Cabinet has approved attendance in the global capacity building workshop on monitoring and utilisation of genetic resources the Nagoya protocol to the convention on biological diversity.”

The forum runs from September 30 to October 2 in Bonn, Germany. The Director-General explained that the event will provide an opportunity to raise awareness, build capacity and share practical experiences regarding the implementation of the provisions of the Nagoya Protocol.
This, he noted, “is to overcome the practical challenges of implementation as parties attempt to build and improve their national access and benefit-sharing systems.”
Vidyanand Mohabir, Environmental Officer Two at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be representing Guyana.
Guyana will also be represented at the second joint session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The 51st session of the IPCC, which will be held in Monaco, from September 20 to 23 was organised to discuss and approve the summary for policymakers of the IPCC special report on the ocean and cryosphere in a changing climate and the acceptance of the report.
Guyana will be represented at this event by Dr. Paulette Bynoe, the nation’s lead negotiator on climate change.
